Vincent van Gogh ( 30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was one of the most famous artists of all time. Over the years, he has influenced many painters and is one of the painters with the largest collection in history. He created his own artistic movement- Post-Impressionism, which was only recognized after his death, just like his artworks.
During his lifetime, Van Gogh had 864 oil paintings, 1037 drawings, and 150 watercolors.
He personally loves portrait painting. He has painted more than 43 self-portraits and 11 sunflowers in his life.
Recently, EsansToy and Zenpunk have jointly launched a Vincent van Gogh 1/6 Scale Action Figure of “Great Master Series”. The accessories are included with an outdoor easel, brushes and palette and two of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings “The Starry Night (1889)” and “Sunflower (1889)“. The playability of this action figure is really rich.
As the first artwork of the “Great Master Series”, Van Gogh is arguably one of the most influential artists who are best known to the public and helped lay the foundation for modern art. This Vincent van Gogh action figure recreates this master who has been impoverished for his whole life, but has never given up his artistic philosophy through the rich painting accessories and simple costume modeling.
This Action Figure launched by EsansToy and Zenpunk is divided into Normal Version and Exclusive Version. Let me introduce them one by one.
Normal Version
This Vincent van Gogh action figure is 1/6 scale, and its overall height is approx. 12 inch (30 cm).
The costume design of Van Gogh is indeed very good, which is more in line with the needs of the characters in the social background at that time.
It is different from the treatment of aging effect of other 12-inch figures’ costumes. The dark blue coat of Van Gogh is stained with various oil paints. Some have even been repeatedly covered and smeared, recreates the artist’s daily work and continuous painting scenes.
In the design of the head sculpt, EsansToy and Zenpunk did not completely follow the mainstream 12-inch real-life head sculpture style, but made reference to various self-portraits of Vincent van Gogh. From the beard and hair to the texture of the face, they are deliberately close to the Post-impressionist brushstrokes. The feeling is like an oil painting self-portrait that has been 3D embodied.
Compared with Van Gogh’s self-portrait, the hairstyle, beard and eyes of this head sculpt are very similar, and have been already recreated to a high degree.
For the convenience of going out and painting, Van Gogh’s easel can be folded, and then can be carried behind him like a backpack.
After the easel is unfolded, it can be placed in this way, behind it is a paintbox, which can store some small stuff such as paints and brushes.
The texture performance of this easel is also in place, there are traces of wear left by long-term use, and the color stained of various oil paints. If you look at it carefully, you will be able to find that the two straps of the easel have also been treated of aging effect, which is in line with Van Gogh’s situation at that time.
The painting effect of the palette and brushes is also very realistic!
